Watch a men’s vault at the Olympics: the explosive run, the thunderous punch off the springboard, and the breathtaking flight through the air, followed by a rock-solid landing. It defies imagination. What the human brain and body can achieve together — mastering intricate skills that look impossible — is absolutely amazing.

Gymnastics is far more than a sport. It is a beautiful blend of strength, artistry, discipline, and personal growth that transforms both the athlete and everyone watching in awe.

The Physical Beauty of Gymnastics

There’s something magical about watching a gymnast perform a triple turn on beam with perfect balance and precision. They make it look effortless, yet behind every skill are countless hours of dedicated practice. Gymnastics builds a strong, capable, and graceful body that moves with control and confidence.

It showcases the human body at its finest — “fearfully and wonderfully made.” No other creature on Earth can combine power, flexibility, balance, and coordination quite like a gymnast. The brain remembers exactly which muscles to fire, while the body executes with split-second timing and elegance. Gymnastics fine-tunes every muscle group, creating harmony between mind and body that even the most advanced AI couldn’t replicate.

The Mental and Emotional Beauty of Gymnastics

Gymnastics trains the mind as much as the body. It develops incredible discipline, focus, and perseverance. That’s why gymnasts are often excellent students — hardworking, intelligent, and mentally tough. They learn to eat well, rest properly, and take care of their bodies.

One of the greatest lessons gymnastics teaches is resilience. You fall — sometimes from great heights and with real force — and you get back up. There are painful mistakes and humbling setbacks, but those moments build unbreakable character. Gymnasts learn there are no excuses. Success comes from personal responsibility, hard work, and the courage to try again.

And when it all comes together? When you hit that perfect routine after months of effort? The joy and pride are like nothing else. That genuine smile and feeling of accomplishment is a natural high that no drug or artificial reward could ever match.

Why I Encourage Every Parent to Get Their Kids in the Gym

I tell parents every day: you don’t have to be training the next Olympian. Gymnastics helps children become champions in life. Every small victory builds confidence. They grow stronger, learn to face failure, and discover they can achieve things they never thought possible.

The benefits go far beyond the gym. Gymnastics prepares kids for other sports and, more importantly, for the challenges of life. In a world that can feel crushing at times, gymnastics builds resilience, character, and joy.

My hope is that every child gets to experience the fun, the friendship, and the life-changing benefits that gymnastics brings.

“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” — Philippians 4:13

#Gymnastics #BeautyOfGymnastics #CoachBrian #MGAGymnastics #StrengthAndGrace #BuildChampions #KidsInSports #FaithAndFitness #Resilience

MGA Gymnastics • Apopka, Florida • Coach Brian Keith Shrewsbury

Get Up and Move

https://www.mgagymnastics.com/blog/get-up-and-move

https://www.mgagymnastics.com/blog/get-up-and-move#comments

Uncategorized

Brian Keith ShrewsburyGet Up and Move – Choose Life, Joy, and Forward Motion TodayAre you dancing this morning? Have you turned on your favorite music with a real beat yet? If not, get up right now and do it. Turn that music on and see what happens. You’ll instantly feel better. Sit up on the side of the bed, plant your feet on the floor, and let your body start moving.

Tune into your Spotify free account and put on some 80s music — or whatever era brings back those memories of when your body felt strong, alive, and unstoppable. If it’s not 80s, I forgive you. Just play what lights you up.

No matter what’s weighing on you right now, interrupt it. If your mind is stuck in something negative, tell yourself, “I’ll come back to that drama later.” You’ll fool your brain into realizing it can set the battle aside for a minute. Next thing you know, that problem starts to lose its grip. You’ll even wonder why you were so worked up about it in the first place.

Dump all the stress from this week. Let go of the bad decisions, the things you thought would make you feel better but didn’t, and every lie that whispered your life isn’t going anywhere. Because it is moving — with or without your full approval. You’re on a timeline. You can’t step off it. Life keeps marching forward. So make the decision today to put into your life what you truly want. You do have the power.

I know, I know — you’re thinking, “If I don’t worry about all this, the world’s going to fall apart.” We all feel that way sometimes. But remember: about 175,000 people die every single day worldwide, and the planet keeps spinning. The sun still rises. The birds keep singing. And the bill collectors keep sending notices to people who are no longer here to pay them. (Gotcha, bill collectors — I left before you could get it all!)

My daily advice to myself is simple: Do something incredible today. It doesn’t have to be big. Just something that feels meaningful to you. In my life, that might mean building something, creating something, writing something, calling someone I love, or just dancing in my room until I feel alive again. I don’t need to climb Mount Everest to feel purpose. I can feel incredible sitting in a pile of ducks, hand-feeding them… or hanging out with my cows… or best of all, spending time with my grandkids and seeing my own children in their eyes and smiles.

Today is a good day to rest, reflect, and plan. Look around at what you already have. See where you are, where you want to go, and what you want to make happen next — whether that’s tonight, tomorrow, or next week.

I hope you have a deeply blessed day. Let the Spirit of the Lord flow through you. Get your engine running and your mind pointed in the right direction. If it drifts, don’t let it stay there long. Get up and get moving however you can. No quitters on this watch.

Uplifting Bible Verse
“The joy of the Lord is your strength.” — Nehemiah 8:10

A Parable About Life

A farmer had two sons. To one he gave five bags of seed, to the other three. The son with five bags complained it was too much work and left most of it in the barn. At harvest time, the first son had almost nothing, while the second had overflowing barns and enough to share. When taught well and practiced with care, gymnastics helps kids become stronger, more confident, more focused, and more resilient. It is not just about flips and routines; it is about helping children grow in healthy and lasting ways.

Good Practices in Kids’ Gymnastics

Good gymnastics for kids should always begin with safety, age-appropriate instruction, and positive coaching. Children should learn basic movements first, such as rolling, balancing, jumping, landing, and stretching, before moving on to more advanced skills. Coaches and parents should focus on proper technique rather than speed or perfection, because that helps prevent injury and builds confidence.

A healthy gymnastics program should also be encouraging and structured. Kids do best when they know what to expect, when lessons are fun, and when progress is celebrated step by step. Positive reinforcement helps children stay motivated and enjoy the process of learning.

How Often Kids Should Practice

For most children, gymnastics works best when practiced consistently but not excessively. One to three sessions per week is often enough for younger or recreational gymnasts, while more advanced children may train more often depending on their goals, age, and energy level. The key is balance, because kids still need time for rest, school, play, and other healthy activities.

Too much training too soon can lead to burnout or injury, while regular practice helps children build strength, coordination, and confidence over time. A good rhythm is better than pushing too hard. Kids grow best when gymnastics feels like a positive part of life rather than a pressure-filled obligation.

Emotional Development

Gymnastics helps children develop emotionally by teaching them how to handle frustration, patience, and success. When a child learns a new skill after many attempts, they begin to understand that effort matters and that growth takes time. That lesson can help them far beyond the gym.

It also helps children build self-esteem. Every small victory — a better handstand, a stronger cartwheel, a cleaner landing — gives them a sense of accomplishment. Over time, kids learn to believe in themselves, even when something feels difficult at first.

Psychological Development

Gymnastics also supports psychological development by improving focus, discipline, and resilience. Children must pay attention, follow directions, remember sequences, and stay aware of their bodies while moving. These habits strengthen concentration and mental control.

The sport also teaches children how to cope with challenge. Falling, trying again, and improving over time helps kids build a growth mindset. They learn that mistakes are part of learning, not a reason to quit. That kind of thinking can support healthy mental habits in school and in life.

Skill Development

From a skill standpoint, gymnastics gives children a strong foundation in movement. It develops balance, coordination, flexibility, strength, posture, timing, and body awareness. These are valuable not only in gymnastics, but in many other sports and physical activities as well.

Children can start with simple skills like forward rolls, backward rolls, cartwheels, bridge holds, balance poses, and safe landings. As they gain confidence, they can progress to more advanced skills at the right pace. Each new skill builds on the one before it, which makes gymnastics especially good for gradual development.

Health Benefits

Gymnastics offers many health benefits for kids. It helps build strong muscles, healthy bones, flexibility, coordination, and cardiovascular fitness. Regular movement also supports better posture, balance, and overall physical confidence.

Beyond the physical side, gymnastics can reduce stress and boost mood. Active play and exercise help children release energy in a healthy way, which can improve emotional well-being. Kids who stay active often sleep better, feel stronger, and develop healthier habits that can last into adulthood.

A Healthy Long-Term Habit

When gymnastics is taught with care, it becomes more than a sport. It becomes a tool for helping children grow into healthier, happier, and more capable people. The best programs focus on safety, encouragement, patience, and steady progress.

Children do not need to be elite athletes to benefit from gymnastics. They only need the chance to move, learn, and grow in a supportive environment. With the right approach, gymnastics can strengthen the body, build the mind, and shape character all at once.

"Brian Keith Shrewsbury: Building Champions in Gymnastics

https://www.mgagymnastics.com/blog/brian-keith-shrewsbury-building-champions-in-gymnastics

https://www.mgagymnastics.com/blog/brian-keith-shrewsbury-building-champions-in-gymnastics#comments

Gymnastics Article

Short Description:Brian Keith Shrewsbury is a celebrated gymnastics coach, writer, and entrepreneur, with over 60 years of family legacy in Maryland and a thriving gym in Florida. When we encourage our children to be on time, listen attentively, and work hard, we’re equipping them with essential life skills. And one of the best ways to develop discipline, strength, and resilience is through gymnastics.

Why Being on Time Matters:
Being on time teaches kids accountability and respect for others. It helps children understand the value of structure, whether in school, sports, or life. When kids arrive on time, they’re ready to learn, participate, and give their best effort.

Listening to Teachers and Working Hard:
Encouraging children to listen to their teachers cultivates respect, patience, and focus. This listening skill translates into working hard and mastering new skills, whether in academics or athletics.

Health, Fitness, Strength, and Flexibility:
Our ultimate goal is to raise healthy, strong, and flexible individuals. Gymnastics is an incredible way to build these qualities. It develops core strength, agility, balance, and flexibility—all of which are crucial for overall fitness.

Gymnastics as a Foundation for Other Sports:
For both boys and girls, gymnastics lays the groundwork for success in any sport. Boys who pursue football, soccer, baseball, or swimming gain an edge from the strength, coordination, and flexibility learned in gymnastics. It’s a hidden gem that builds agility and body awareness, essential for any athletic endeavor.

Conclusion:
By fostering punctuality, a strong work ethic, and a love for gymnastics, we equip our children for a lifetime of success in health, fitness, and beyond. Gymnastics is more than a sport—it’s a foundation for a lifetime of achievement. Let’s encourage both boys and girls to embrace the benefits of gymnastics and watch them soar.

#GymnasticsForLife #PunctualityMatters #HealthyKids #FitnessForAll #StrongAndFlexible #GymnasticsFoundation #BoysAndGirlsInSports #AthleteDevelopment

Ten Practical Things to Get Motivated Now!

https://www.mgagymnastics.com/blog/ten-practical-things-to-get-motivated-now

https://www.mgagymnastics.com/blog/ten-practical-things-to-get-motivated-now#comments

Uncategorized

xmlTen Practical Things To Get Motivated Now!By Brian Keith ShrewsburySet Small, Achievable Goals: Break bigger dreams into tiny tasks you can finish quickly; celebrate when each is done.Write Down Your Goals: Visualize and record what you want—it makes your goals tangible and easier to track.Find Inspiration from Others: Look for mentors, role models, or stories of people who've worked hard to succeed.Practice Positive Self-Talk: Encourage yourself with affirmations like “I can do this!” [...]

xml
Ten Practical Things To Get Motivated Now!

By Brian Keith Shrewsbury

Set Small, Achievable Goals: Break bigger dreams into tiny tasks you can finish quickly; celebrate when each is done.

Write Down Your Goals: Visualize and record what you want—it makes your goals tangible and easier to track.

Find Inspiration from Others: Look for mentors, role models, or stories of people who've worked hard to succeed.

Practice Positive Self-Talk: Encourage yourself with affirmations like “I can do this!” or “Every step counts”.

Create a Schedule: Make a daily or weekly plan and stick to it to develop structure and momentum.

Reward Progress Strategically: Give yourself small rewards after milestones—not before—to reinforce effort and build confidence.

Stay Accountable with Support: Find a “goal buddy” or supportive friends who help you stay motivated and on track.

Take Care of Physical Health: Rest, nutrition, and exercise fuel your motivation and help keep your mind sharp.

Practice Mindfulness: Use meditation or deep breathing to calm your mind if you feel overwhelmed or “stuck”.

Reflect on Why You Want It: Regularly remember the real reason behind your goals to stay committed when challenges arise.

Apply even a few of these steps, and motivation will start to grow—leading to real accomplishments and positive changes.

#motivation #motivationalquotes #selfimprovement

Fun Games to Play @ Home

https://www.mgagymnastics.com/blog/fun-games-to-play-home

https://www.mgagymnastics.com/blog/fun-games-to-play-home#comments

Uncategorized

Ten Fun, Brain-boosting Activities to do with Your Child Today!By Brian Keith ShrewsburyStory Chain Game - Start a silly story (“Once upon a time, a dinosaur wore roller skates…”), then take turns adding one sentence.
