In 1964 our family started a small gymnastics and dance studio in Maryland. Today, we still have that small center feeling, we just have a few more students than we used to. Family values are as important to us today as as they were back then. It’s important to us to always put our students first and to have a gym that is a positive learning place for kids.

Problems to Solve

By Brian Keith Shrewsbury

Did you know that sports in general can help children deal with life's realities?  They are confronted with problems and situations though-out their practices and competitions. They have to solve the problems, or be defeated by them. Kids may think they can throw a temper tantrum and get what they want, but it won't work in sports, especially the sport of gymnastics.

Every day in practice I see kids try to outsmart their coach, and get out of work. They may want to avoid a skill or a conditioning exercise, but it comes back to get them in the end. They don't have the skills for their competition or they don't have the strength to get the new skill. It doesn't really matter how a gymnast feels in practice. it's what they are willing to give that matters.

Kids need to  work Hard and show perseverance.  They need to confront and deal with the every day problems presented to them. How fast they cope and move on from problems, contributes to how successful an athlete will be. The better kids learn to cope. the better they get at gymnastics and the stresses and pressures it presents.  The skills they learn in gymnastics can be applied in every day life too.
