What Are MGA In-Gym Competitions?
At MGA, we have seasonal in-gym competitions where our class kids get a chance to show off what they've been learning! In class, our students in boys gymnastics, girls gymnastics, and T&T learn routines on each Olympic event. During our in-gym competitions, athletes perform the routines that they've learned in front of a judge, who then gives them a score from 0-10.0 - a 10.0 being perfect. Once athletes have finished competing all of their routines, there is an award ceremony where they receive medals for their performance. Students who have a total All-Around score of 32.0 or higher will have achieved the in-gym competition score move-up requirement for their level. Depending on your child's current level, there may be additional requirements to move-up (see Girls Gymnastics Flow Chart below for details).
The purpose of these competitions is to give students a goal to work toward in class, to prepare athletes for possible future competitions on competitive team, and most importantly to HAVE FUN!

Witness the Thrill of Competition!
After the grand march-in, the excitement truly begins as each group of athletes heads to their first event. With 10 to 15 minutes to warm up alongside their coach, athletes prepare to showcase their skills and perfect their routines. The anticipation builds as, one by one, each gymnast steps into the spotlight to perform their very best routine in front of a judge—giving it their all in a single, unforgettable moment. Coaches are there to support and guide, and while assistance is always available, athletes are encouraged to shine independently for the highest scores. We invite you to cheer loudly and proudly for your child! Your encouragement fills the gym with energy, boosts confidence, and makes the day even more memorable for every athlete. Capture these special moments with photos and videos (just remember to turn off your flash to keep our competitors safe and focused). Please note: For everyone’s safety, only athletes and MGA event staff are allowed on the competition floor, and students will remain with their coach until the event concludes. Join us for a day of inspiration, achievement, and celebration—where every athlete gets their moment to shine! |
How Scoring Works at MGA In-Gym Competitions
After each athlete completes their routine, our judge will award a score between 0 and 10, using precise one-tenth point increments (for example: 7.6, 8.8, 9.2, etc.). Every routine begins with a perfect 10.0, and deductions are made for things such as:
Rest assured, our judges are friendly and supportive. All routines are evaluated by experienced competitive team coaches and owners who are dedicated to making this a positive, encouraging experience for every student.
After all athletes in a group have performed on an event, they’ll line up with their coach and rotate to the next event, where the process begins again with a new warm-up. This keeps the energy high and ensures every child gets their moment to shine on each apparatus!

Celebrate Success at the Awards Ceremony!
Once everyone has finished competing on all of their events, athletes go sit by the podium for awards. While the scores are being put into the system and calculated, students get goodie bags with treats and prizes inside. During this time, students are permitted to go see their parents and family in the crowd, if they wish. Once it is announced that we are ready to begin with awards, all students need to be back out on the floor.
Athletes get awarded for the top scores on each event, and for all-around (the sum of the athlete's scores on all events). Awards are also separated by level and age group (Pink 4-6, Pink 7-9, Pink 10+, T&T Beginner, etc.). For the all-around award we go all the way out for placings so that each child receives at least one award. This is a great time to take lots of pictures and cheer for your little athlete! And don't forget to post them online.
Once awards are finished for the last group, the competition is concluded.
